Is there anything like flashget, getright and other similar download
managers that can be used for stuff from IRC, basically looking for
something that has a interface where i can pause and resume downloads as and
when i please, im getting a bit sick of starting MIRC then going to the
correct channel etc before i can resume downloading.
I have the Dcc assist but cant seem to get it to work :((, so anyone got any
other suggestions for a good downloading manager thingy for IRC files???

IRC and DCC weren't intended to be used that way. Most XDCC (I assume
you're trying to pause an illegal download, from the way this is worded)
servers don't support DCC RESUME (which is avaliable in some clients,
and I think one of them is HydraIRC). IRC is for chatting, not for
downloading, so there's no download managers or anything like that.

Actually there are downloads available through irc that arnt illegal you
know, dont assume too much. Some of the stuff i download are things like
(legal) plugins for programs, that cant be found anywhere else except IRC.
Also while we are on the subject of 'assuming technical legality of things',
may i suggest you alter your fake email address, unless of course microsoft
have given you permission to use part of an address which is legally
protected.

Perhaps you should imform them that they need to submit their plugin to
download.com. You know, so people don't have to download an IRC client
to get their plugin.

Well, before it was going to *.com---...---microsoft.com, and nobody

Well.. Like I said, IRC's not a download protocol. Therefore, download
managers wouldn't work. Your best bet would be to 1) tell the person
running the file server to edit it so it accepts out-of-channel
connections or 2) find the file elsewhere (you can probably find it on
P2P, since what you're downloading is legal -- there's plenty of legal
stuff on P2P -- but, like IRC, there's illegal stuff too).

How about trillian (independent) plugin packs, various skins for various

Well all the plugins may well be available on there.... but 'seperately', on
irc you get them all zipped up in one nice pack, which IMO is a lot better
then putting my mouse and wrist through hell, clicking and searching all
over the place at download.com to get say 20 plugins

IRC script packs do transfer in IRC, I forgot about that 0_0. Anyways,
you could probably find it on P2P, but possibly not.

Yeah, but there's gotta be something on Bitzi or torrent downloads or

Well.. You could:

alias resumedl {
/join #xdcc
/ctcp XDCC resume 1
}

Or whatever you'd type manually to make it resume. Then, to resume, type
/resumedl. About all I can think of.

I've never really seen any client properly support DCC resume, and most
XDCC servers don't support it anyways (those that do don't support it
very well). I mean, most XDCC servers support it like this:

/ctcp XDCC-1 RESUME 1
(to resume pack 1)

And that's bad practice... The proper way would be to initiate a DCC
resume session.. HydraIRC supports it, but most XDCC servers don't
support it.

Depends which, and what you're looking for.

Basically.. unless you're willing to write your own script, there's not
going to be anything very good for you unless you can somehow get the
XDCC bots to auto-resend or something...

^_^ Of course I know the IRC commands better, I'm one of the authors of
an IRCX (Internet Relay Chat eXtensions) server ^_^

Okay, anyways.. It seems to me like the only way you could properly do
an auto-resend would be on the XDCC server itself. It'd require some
sort of setting, though. Like..
/ctcp XDCC-1 XDCC RESUME ENABLE

Then, if you get disconnected from the XDCC bot, it'll try resending you
the file where it left off. If it can't reach you, it'll put you one
spot behind in the queue (i.e. you'd be #2), and try resending like
that. Of course, both clients need to support DCC resume....

You could probably have a timer that tries to resend if the DCC isn't
going, but I don't know enough mIRC to make that happen...

Did someone cancel their post or something? Although.. yes.. IRC isn't
really the best for file transfers. If at all possible, seek something
better like HTTP or FTP. Of course, most mIRC scripts are distributed
via #mIRC or similar channels (i.e. not via web). Although, 90% of the
crap I see on IRC is this:
1) Warez
2) Porn/Kiddie Porn/Anime Porn
3) Cracks/Patches

That's not to say there's not legal stuff going on, because there is
(see any channel on FreeNode). I'm not really trying to be a troll, just
my two cents :P
